Influenza and Homeopathy

Every year people become more prone to colds and flu during the cooler seasons. Influenza is an acute viral infection of the respiratory tract which can occur in either isolated cases or epidemics. Symptoms include inflammation of the nasal mucosa, pharynx and conjunctiva, prostration, fever, headache, and severe, often generalised muscular pain.

In the not so distant past, it was acceptable and highly desirable for all concerned, for the ill person to stay at home, rest the body, drink plenty of fluids, and concentrate on getting better. In present day, there are many societal and work pressures and people view illness as an inconvenience which they must work through without stopping their daily routine.

This can have adverse effects on the body's ability to deal with the infection in a healthy way and care should be taken to ensure the condition does not progress to a secondary infection. Signs and symptoms of any acute illness are our body's defense mechanism working to try and rid the body of the disease - so we need to honour our body and work with it at this time. If dealt with in a healthy way, it is often the case, that people feel fantastic afterwards - it is like a purging.

Patients were referred by their General Practitioner or a hospital specialist after unsuccessful conventional treatment. Conditions such as eczema, asthma, migraine, irritable bowel syndrome, menopause, arthritis, depression and chronic fatigue syndrome were treated homeopathically.

Let's remember to honour and respect our bodies by avoiding any undue stress, getting enough sleep and eating a well balanced diet, and also to realise that sometimes our body needs to stop and heal. So take time off, let your body sleep and recharge. And why not give homeopathy a go as well!
